Jane Austen, the author of Pride and Prejudice was born in a pastoral family in Steventon , England . She is the seventh children among one sister and six brothers. Her father graduated from Oxford University and her mother was famous for rhyme article and novel. Thanks to her parents’ encouragement of studying, Austen got good foundation of writing.
Austen’s novels are very concise sagacious and satiric. And her style is between 18th new classical literature and 19th romantic literature. She always describes a beautiful countryside where a gentle man and a lady from falling in love to marrying. Pride and prejudice is a book like this, and it is said to be the most favorite book of Austen.
Elizabeth is the second daughter among five unmarried girls in Bennett’s, and she is an intelligent and spirited girl. She gets to know Mr. Darcy in her new neighbor —— Mr. Bingley’s party. Darcy is a single man in possession of a good fortune. He is Mr. Bingley’s best friend and lives with him temporary. Because Darcy’s “pride” and Elizabeth’s “prejudice”, they do not give each other a good impression. But after Darcy has saved the reputation of Lydia (the youngest sister of Elizabeth), Elizabeth and Darcy realize that they have misunderstood each other. In fact. There are no pride and prejudice at all! At last, they get married.
From this story, we cat not only see a beautiful picture of peaceful and sweet countryside in the 19th century England, but also can see the author’s attitude towards love and marriage. Austen tells us that it is totally wrong to marry for property and social status, but at the same time it is also imprudent to marry without adequate property. What is more, it is ridiculous that judging a person by first seeing. Because our eyes or ears may cheat us sometimes.
All in all, I like Pride and Prejudice very much . It is a good book which tells us how to face love sensibly. Although love plays an important role in our life, it is not the only element of marriage. |
